We need your help and support!
Kenosha is submitting an application to Google to install a new way of delivering Internet service. Google is planning to build and test ultra-high speed broadband networks in a small number of trial locations across the country. The network will deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today, with 1 gigabit per second fiber to the home. The service is to be priced competitively with other broadband offerings.
In order for this application to be successful, we need to show that there is strong interest in this project across the Kenosha area. Show of support can be in the form of letters, supporting the project on the facebook page as well as nominating the area following the link towards the bottom of the page.
We don't have many details on how this service would be deployed or other particulars, but we do know that this would be a valuable economic and educational tool for the Kenosha area. Specific benefits to our community are:
- Economic - Key component to spur economic development and supports priority strategies identified in the Economic Development Strategy for Kenosha County
- Education - Support long distance learning for remote and dispersed students, researchers and allow educators to collaborate and share information
- Healthcare - Promotes telemedicine with healthcare professionals where video is often not otherwise possible
- Public Safety - Provide the backbone for an enhanced public safety communication system improving safety and data interoperability across multiple jurisdictions
- Competition - Fosters competition with the predominant cable and telecommunication Internet providers
In addition to public safety, healthcare and educational institutions, this project will also address the needs of residents and small to medium sized businesses. With the high speed bandwidth, residents will be capable of real time streaming of video content which is not possible today. Businesses will have the infrastructure necessary to support their Internet presences as well as eCommerce initiatives.
