Unidentified Infantry Private

This young warrior arrived at the photographic studio fully equipped and ready for action. He wears a dark blue wool, thigh length frock coat, and a forage cap with the bill turned upwards so his face can be clearly seen. He holds a Model 1861 rifled musket and wears a complete set of accoutrements including:

• Cartridge box
• Cross belt with eagle breast plate
• Waist belt with an oval US plate and percussion cap box

The photographer applied gilding to the eagle breast plate and two of the brass buttons of the coat.
