Our Focus

The Civil War Museum speaks for the Civil War generation to present and future generations with a unique voice from a particular place. The Museum collects, preserves and interprets artifacts relating to the social, economic and cultural experiences of the people of the Upper Middle West as affected by the Civil War. A special gallery honors and recognizes the contributions of all American veterans.

The Civil War Museum focuses on the role of six Midwestern states - Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. Our Museum tells the personal stories of the men, women and children before, during and after the "War of Rebellion." Here you will meet those who went to the battlefront, fought in the war or provided aid, and those who stayed home and kept farms and businesses working and sent supplies to the front. Here you will learn how the Civil War shaped hometowns in the Midwest and changed forever a growing nation.
